Getting the Heat Right for Glass Research
If you’ve ever tried using a standard, off-the-shelf infrared lamp for R&D, you know the frustration. They’re designed to be uniform. They give you that “even” heat across the board. But when you’re developing new glass materials, “even” is usually the last thing you want. You need specific thermal gradients—places where it’s scorching and places where it’s not. That’s where we come in. We build long-life infrared tubes where the power density is mapped exactly to what your process actually needs.
It’s More Than Just Size and Power
Most suppliers just ask you for the length and the wattage, then ship you a basic tube. We do things a bit differently. We look at how the heating element is actually distributed inside the quartz. By changing how the filament is wound, we can bake “hot zones” and “cool zones” right into a single tube. It’s a huge time-saver. Instead of juggling multiple heating stages to simulate complex thermal stress, you can do it all with one piece of gear. You can tell us exactly how many watts you need per centimeter. Need a rapid ramp-up at the edges but a steady, slow soak in the middle? We’ll wind the filament to match that exact profile.
The Trade-off: Power vs. Patience
We use high-purity quartz and specialized filaments so these tubes can handle the grind of high-temperature cycles without giving up. But here’s the catch: they’re sensitive. A single fingerprint on the quartz can create a tiny hot spot, and that’s usually what kills the tube. It’s a fragile balance. To keep them running, you’ve got to be disciplined—wear your gloves and keep the housing spotless. It’s a small price to pay for the performance, but it’s non-negotiable.
Making it Work in Your Lab
Moving from a prototype to a full test rig can be a headache, but these tubes are designed to just slide in where your standard lamps used to be. We give you a lot of wiggle room with the voltage and wattage so they play nice with whatever power supplies you already have on your bench. Just send us your thermal map, and we’ll calibrate the power density to hit those marks. No guessing. No “trial and error” that wastes a week of your time. Just the heat you asked for.
