How to stop your heaters from dying in damp warehouses
If you’re running infrared heaters in a high-ceiling industrial space, you already know the struggle. Moisture is the enemy. Between the humidity and the occasional splash of water, these units take a beating. That’s why we built our high-ceiling units with anti-fog and splash-proof guards. We wanted to stop the water from ever touching the heating elements in the first place.
Why things actually break
Here is the deal: when a cold drop of water hits a scorching hot quartz tube, the glass doesn’t just get wet. It shocks. That thermal shock causes the glass to crack. It’s just basic physics. And even if the tube stays intact, condensation is a silent killer. It creates these little conductive paths across your electrical terminals, which leads to short circuits or wiring that burns out way too soon. To fix this, we wrapped everything in a sealed housing with a special shield. The anti-fog design keeps the emitter surface clear, so you don’t get that annoying haze you see in most damp warehouses. You just get steady, reliable heat.
The honest trade-off
We put a lot of focus on the “danger zones”—the spots where the wires enter the chassis. We use gaskets and sealed conduits to keep the liquid out, which is a lifesaver if you’re in a wash-down area. Now, I’ll be honest with you. Adding a protective shield does change the heat flow a bit. A tiny bit of that infrared radiation gets blocked by the guard. But look at it this way: losing maybe 5% of your heat output is a tiny price to pay compared to the headache of replacing a shattered lamp every six months.It’s a trade I’d make every single time.
A few tips for installation
When you’re wiring these up, double-check your mounting brackets. These units are a bit heavier than your average lamp because of the extra casing, so make sure they’re locked in tight. If you’re dealing with heavy steam, take a quick peek at the IP ratings to make sure the seals are right for your specific setup. The protection works great—as long as the seals stay intact during the install.
